People's Budget OC is working with organizations and residents across Orange County to coming together to demand a People’s Budget OC—a budget by and for the people.
People’s Budget OC is a coalition working to build a better Orange County—one that is more vibrant, equitable, and humane, where every community member has access to safe and affordable housing, and both physical & mental healthcare; where children and youth, environmental sustainability, and racial justice are priorities; and where people can live free from unnecessary policing and incarceration.
At the heart of our work is Orange County’s over $1.2 billion discretionary budget, controlled by the Orange County Board of Supervisors. For decades, budget priorities have too often favored “public protection”—including law enforcement, jails, and the courts—over critically needed and meaningful investments in the districts they serve and throughout Orange County.
We believe Orange County can be a place where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity and thrive. That future requires investing in people, housing, health, opportunity, and community—not criminalizing poverty and social control.
We are bringing together individuals and organizations committed to creating a People’s Budget that reflects the critical needs and priorities of our communities throughout the county. Our coalition advocates for affordable and supportive housing to prevent and end homelessness, racial and economic justice, divestment from policing and jails, restorative practices, the right to protest, healthcare access, and healthy, safe, and thriving communities.
Join us in demanding a People’s Budget that works for everyone. This movement will not end with this year’s budget. We will continue organizing, advocating, and building power until Orange County has a budget by the people, for the people.
